Daniel: Hi, I'm Daniel Comp and I'm shooting this video from Rowena Crest—one of the favorite places on earth for me. This is the Columbia River Gorge and way out west I like to wind foil.

One of the best tools for getting to know somebody, I believe, is the Clifton Strengths Finder assessment. My top three strengths are Achiever, Input, and Learner.

This clip is both for demonstration for each of you that are shooting your profile to introduce yourself to some of the other men and attendees, and it's also an example of how the Clifton Strengths Finder can be used to get to know somebody really well. Because you're gonna find out not just their strengths—you're gonna find out their weaknesses.

You see, our strengths turn out to be things we've practiced most of our life that are the direct result of our childhood wounds. They're actually our coping mechanisms. So my eight world records in IT production—having built over 32,000 websites, more than any human that I know of—that directly comes out of not knowing my genetic father, always thinking I had to do more than what is normally expected of someone. And the Input Learner—well those become how we offend people. That's my second and third strengths.

See, our strengths are our norm. Our norm is not everybody else's norm. That means that we easily offend and weary other people by just being who we are in our strengths.

One of the wonderful things about the Columbia River Gorge that separates the state of Oregon and Washington is that the wind blows through here—right?—for wind sports. It's also why I have to come inside because you can't hear any audio.

One of the things that is core to knowing somebody deeply is finding out who they really are inside and what their wounds are. And each of us, as we realize that we don't see things the way they are—we see things the way we are as individuals—when we become comfortable with how we see the world, we become far more open to hearing how others see the world and sharing our strengths and our wounds.

Part of the journey. Nobody gets out of life without a good story. There's a very powerful thought in the movie called Secondhand Lions and it goes like this: everyone needs something to believe in, even if it's not true. Often I find that that belief is the excuse or the reason or the story that we give ourselves to accept who we are and how we wound people.

And I would invite you on a different journey. So if you've spent any time around me, you'll have found your blind spots—your scotoma. And that's because I find that there's a direct correlation or an insight between our physical blind spots, our emotional blind spots that come from our strengths—our coping mechanisms—and who we are deeply as men. The things that we are challenged with all the time.

You might be one to summit Everest. You might be like me—three times Transamerica cyclist and a world record holder. But you know what? Getting to know who I really am—that's been the most important thing for my personal growth and then also for those people around me: my son and daughter and my grandkids.

And so as you get to know me a little bit, I'll leave you with this thought: I believe the greatest expedition you'll ever undertake is that journey to self-understanding.

True to character—Achiever, Input, Learner—I'm trying to squeeze everything into a short video so you can see both the demonstration of what a potential introduction video might be and also so you get to know me a little bit. So there are my strengths, there's one of my favorite places, and a little bit about me as a person.

Really, we're going to be sure to have a good call to action at the end of your video. If some of this sounds intriguing and you'd like to start your own personal Everest, I'd encourage you to not go it alone and to join the conversation at 360men.net. As always, you can subscribe to this channel and you could join us for a conference or an expedition.

CODEX ENTRY

Date: 2018-06-19 File: 360MEN Founder Intro - Daniel Comp.md Monomyth Stage: 01 - Ordinary World Gameboard Position: Camp -4: The Ordinary World MA5 Domain: None Summary: Standing at Rowena Crest in the Columbia River Gorge, Daniel Comp introduces himself as founder of 360MEN, demonstrates the member introduction video format, reveals his top CliftonStrengths (Achiever, Input, Learner), and links them directly to childhood wounds—especially never knowing his genetic father. He explains how strengths become coping mechanisms that both empower and weary others, introduces the core Scotomaville insight that we see the world as we are, and invites men onto the greatest expedition: the journey to self-understanding. Key Insight: Our greatest strengths are often practiced responses to early wounds; becoming aware of our own lens (scotoma) and sharing both strengths and vulnerabilities opens the door to deeper connection and genuine personal growth. Narrative Significance: This foundational self-introduction marks the true starting point of the Scotomaville / Initium arc—shifting from external achievements and world records to the inner expedition of awareness, blind-spot discovery, and intentional community. It establishes the invitation and the tone for all future 360MEN conversations and the broader journey Daniel is undertaking.
