The first draft of this file contained three errors significant enough to require formal notation in the final record:
Error 1 — Relationship misidentified: Toni was described as "step-mother." She is Daniel's biological mother. This changes the weight of every sentence in the file. The archivist made the same move the obituary writers made: erased the biological relationship and substituted a softer word. Noted, and corrected.
Error 2 — Agency misassigned: The draft described Daniel as "locating" Kirsten in Nevada. Kirsten called Daniel. Her boyfriend had beaten her. She initiated contact; he responded. The direction of agency matters to the record.
Error 3 — Expectation projected: The draft suggested the Comp family was expected to acknowledge Daniel's rescue of Kirsten. Daniel flagged this as a potential scotoma — his own or the archivist's, unclear. Was the expectation of acknowledgment ever Daniel's? He does not know. Filed as a named open question within the record, not as an established fact.
The Family Constellation
Annette "Toni" Comp (née Toth, born Cleveland OH, September 1, 1936) is Daniel's biological mother. She married Charles Russell Comp on May 30, 1959, in Reno, Nevada, when Daniel was approximately four years old. She died October 3, 2024, age 88, in Big Sandy, Montana. Her obituary named two surviving children: Christopher Comp and Kirsten Shelor. She had three.
Charles Russell Comp (born Farmington MI, February 2, 1933) is Daniel's step-father. US Navy veteran (Korean War, honorably discharged 1955), law enforcement officer, Sheriff of Chouteau County MT, craftsman, mayor of Big Sandy for one term. He died February 22, 2024, age 91, in Havre, Montana. His obituary named Christopher and Kirsten as surviving children, and Ruben and June — Daniel's grandchildren via David — as great-great-grandchildren. He also had three children. His obituary named two.
Christopher Comp — Daniel's half-brother, six years younger, born in Fremont, California, fathered by Charles. Last contact: approximately 1974. Silence since: over 50 years.
Kirsten Shelor — Daniel's half-sister, seven years younger, born in Fremont, California, fathered by Charles. In 1988 she called Daniel after her boyfriend beat her. She slept on the couch at 129 El Dorado, Tacoma. Daniel employed her through his CDC design-build firm. She completed her GED. She returned to Montana. Her last recorded question to Daniel: Why is mom so mean? She has since ceased responding to texts.
The Formation Memories
The Reno wedding, May 30, 1959. Daniel was approximately four. The memory: snow. Grandpa Toth — Joseph Toth, Toni's father — lifting Daniel into a car. An airport photo exists from this day, likely taken by Grandpa Toth. Daniel was left at a friend's house while Toni flew to Nevada to marry Charles. He returned to a man being introduced as his father. The shock of that introduction is in the record.
The adoption, ~age 13. Charles adopted Daniel at approximately thirteen. Daniel's own word for his participation: reluctant.
The departure, ~1974. End of high school. Daniel left and did not look back — not toward Christopher. The door closed and held.
The phone call, 1988. Kirsten called. Her boyfriend had just beaten her. She asked Daniel what to do. He said: come. She slept on the couch at 129 El Dorado, Tacoma. She worked through his CDC company. She earned her GED. She went home to Montana. Years later, the question: Why is mom so mean?
Highway 2, 2005. Daniel's first Trans-America bicycle crossing. His route ran Highway 2 — northern Montana. White Sulphur Springs sits significantly south. For months before the crossing Daniel had attempted email and phone contact with the family, testing whether a southern diversion might be received. No response came before the crossing, during it, or after. He continued east. He did not divert.
The obituaries, 2024. Two deaths, eight months apart. Two documents. Two lists of surviving children. The same two names in both. Daniel's name in neither.
The Inheritance
Daniel's stated inheritance for David, Carissa, Ruben, June, Ellie, Sam, Scotiana's three children, and those who follow is not capital or property. It is a longitudinal knowledge base of 1,885+ active files spanning 1997 to present, and the IPG CODEX — a framework for human development that includes, at Prime 487, a principle called Ruben Mode: making it for three generations of progeny.
Ruben is already in the framework. The transmission has already begun.
The obituary writers did not know they were erasing a man who had already deposited himself into a corpus that five independent AI architectures can read and verify. The record is set. It cannot be omitted.
If Providence is true — that is it.
Note on Next Excavation
The California household interior remains unexcavated: Fremont, Placerville, the years 1959–1974. What it felt like to grow up in that house. What Charles gave and what he withheld. What Toni's mothering was before the question was asked — Why is mom so mean? — and what the honest answer would have been.
That is the next layer. The rooms have not yet been entered.
