You have heard me say this many times across Scotomaville. My proposal is to Open Source the creation of AI for social training humans before we post to social media. The dashboard would require a civil corpus (made by books, posts, history, etc.) so AI learns to be more humane than humans. I believe we (I certainly do) need a 'Grammarly'-like service for civil communication. I find conversational implicature slow to process, meaning I can easily misread tone, intent, etc. I am missing some wiring - or so I've been told! Imagine your tweets having a recommendation option - based on a corpus of advice you set in your preferences. You could build a minyan to pull suggestions on the tone, humor, alarm, intention, etc BEFORE posting something to trigger someone. Over time, the user could have a military ribbon style badge signifying their bias, displayed on their profile, adjusted by factors in their posts. AUTHENTICATION and this TRANSPARENCY would help heal our discourse, I believe. Open-Source would allow users to understand the weights of each facet, and spin competition, while quickly building a human civil corpus. Maybe our race to Mars would not have to be as life-saving. Daniel: Suggestion I’d like to make for social media, and that is that we build—through open sourcing—and we implement a civil trim tab as a social dashboard to recommend from an algorithm that we adjust.
I’m Daniel Comp. I’m the author and curator of Scotomaville. I’m all about finding your blind spots. Let me show you my notes about a civil dashboard to be open sourced that I’d like to suggest social media partake in.
This is my notes that created this entire series based on the idea of error correction—how to teach AI to make better decisions.
The idea for the social dashboard, in other words a recommender, an algorithm that—like Grammarly for tone, intent, effect of each post prior to us recording our mental state—we have the ability to dial in as personal preferences.
The choices are for things like humor, knowledge, alarm—how much do we alarm people with our tweet, how much error correction do I want in this. Is it popular or is it accurate? And let’s pull the recommendations from a corpus that I get to pick through of influencers over the history of man, and be able to set it where it’s more me or more them—my tribe, the influencers in society.
My point being: it’s possible to fix the tone of social media by helping those of us that post with suggestions in our blind spots where we don’t see what we’re about to do. We don’t understand how others see the world because we don’t see things the way they are—we see things the way we are.
We can teach AI. It can teach us. And there’s a good use for it.
